December 4, 2007 – Miascor Catering, a joint venture in the Philippines between Gate Gourmet, Citadel Holding and Malaysia Airlines, recently broke ground for a new catering facility at Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA), also known as Clark International Airport.
The initial phase will include a 1,000-square-meter building with a production capability of 1,200 meals a day with the possibility of expansion to 5,000 meals daily. The facility will be located on 3,000 square meters of land at Clark International Airport, just a few meters from the runway.
The airport is a former U.S. military base. It has been converted by the Philippine government into a free port and is envisioned to become the country's international gateway. It is located about 85 kilometers northwest of Manila.
Mark Wall, President of the Asia-Pacific region for Gate Gourmet, said: We are very proud of our presence in the Philippines with our partner Citadel Holding for the past 10 years, and we're equally as proud to grow and build our facility at Clark. Gate Gourmet is committed to bring its full array of global in-flight solutions; including the newly acquired portfolio of brands into this project. We are convinced it will support our airline customers, create jobs, and support economic growth in this region."
Ricardo C. Delgado, Chairman of Citadel and Miascor, said the facility is necessary to accommodate long-haul carriers and to fulfill the desire to create a premier gateway airport. He added that the facility would be fully halal compatible.
The new kitchen is expected to become operational by early June next year.
Gate Gourmet-Miascor currently operates a flight kitchen, including halal facilities, at Ninoy Aquino International Airport at Manila. It is capable of preparing up to 5,500 meals per day.
