Masahiro Kizawa joined Gate Gourmet Japan's Narita kitchen in February 1997 as Chef for Japanese cuisine in the hot and cold kitchen and was promoted to Cold Kitchen Manager in March 2001. In July 2005 he also took over the management of the hot meal portioning section.
Chef Kizawa started his career in 1986 at the sushi restaurant of the Narita View Hotel, where he specialized in Japanese cuisine and the preparation of sushi as well as hotel restaurant management.
When Thai Airways ran a Japanese food promotion program on their NRT-BKK-NRT flights in 1998, Chef Kizawa served sushi and Japanese meals onboard these flights.
At the Hom Mali Rice Competition (Hom Mali rice is a unique Jasmine-scented rice produced exclusively in Thailand), which Thailand's Department of Foreign Trade organized in 2000 to promote the export and consumption of this special rice, Chef Kizawa won 6th place with his recipe for Jasmine Rice Salad. It was published in the winners' recipe book that the Foreign Trade Department had printed after the competition.
Chef Kizawa's love of good food and the joy of seeing others enjoying it motivated him to enter the culinary trade. And since he likes to serve his dishes to a global clientele, joining an international airline catering company was the logical choice for him.
Asked about his favorite dish, the answer is -- of course -- sushi, although he is also very interested in Japanese-Asian fusion cuisine.
Chef Kizawa enjoys spending time with his family and playing with the kids when he is not cooking. His hobby appears to be an ideal complement to his profession: Chef Kizawa is an experienced gardener and a good farmer.
