



Bio for Chef Simon Newell
A talented chef with 25 years of International experience, Simon Newell is the Executive and Development Chef at Gate Gourmet London Heathrow, where he works with several U.K. and Ireland carriers.
Prior to joining Gate Gourmet in July 2006, Chef Simon was the owner and manager of Shamaroony’s Irish Pub in St. Johns and Antigua. In past lives, he also served as the Executive Chef for well-established Caribbean properties such as the Grand Princess Casino and Entertainment, the Jolly Beach Resort, and the Rex St. Lucian Hotel, as well as the Chef de Cuisine aboard the legendary mega yacht "Christina O."
After working in hotels and restaurants, Chef Simon wanted to try a different aspect of the industry. Having grown up near the London Gatwick airport, he took his passion for airplanes, international travel and cooking and made the obvious choice: Gate Gourmet. Although he hesitates to name a favorite dish, having so many from all corners of the world, he says his main objective in selecting a menu is "something healthy and nice.” Chef Simon also is fond of saying “the customer is always right." After skipping a beat, he adds, “but the chef is never wrong.”
Although he daily serves up specialties for his customers, Chef Simon says people would be surprised to know that he doesn’t like to cook at home. Instead, he enjoys relaxing with his kids, playing golf and traveling.
